September --- Canadian Thistle I had never paid much attention to thistles before but they add a nice fluffy bit of color to the late summer landscape. I wanted to stitch their airy tops using only thread, more embroidery than quilting. Although I worked from a free-hand sketch, I tried to keep this one a little loose as well. I was able to keep the surface flat and unpuckered, even with the addition of very dense stitching with moderately heavy thread.
